Gisela Schools, Passau

A high school and a secondary school are now housed in the former monastery building. Since 2012, the building, listed as a historic monument, has been extensively renovated and brought up to the latest technical standards.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

The Gisela Schools are located at the Passau meeting point where the Danube, Ilz and Inn rivers meet. The pedagogical establishment already received mention back in 1836; the original monastery was founded back in 739. A high school and a secondary school are now housed in the former monastery building. Since 2012, the building, listed as a historic monument, has been extensively renovated and brought up to the latest technical standards. Due to the size of the project, the renovation was sub-divided into numerous construction phases. In addition, the historical complex was severely damaged by flooding in 2013. Numerous renovation and refurbishment measures were required to complete the repairs.

Despite extensive restoration and renovation, the exterior appearance has been preserved. Historical areas have been refurbished on the interior and combined with modern elements. The sanitary facilities did not satisfy the required specifications and had to be completely redesigned. Orange tiled walls now provide colorful accents to the sanitary rooms. The stainless steel accessories are particularly low maintenance and robust. The dispenser systems on the washbasins and toilets also effectively increase hygiene - they easily enable clean retrieval of consumable articles like soap or toilet paper.
