With the construction of the new Diakonie Bethanien building in the Zurich district of Altstetten, the head office of the social undertaking has a new location. Due to its multi-functional orientation, at the same time, the Diakonie (social welfare organisation) building will become a new meeting place for the district.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

In addition to the administration, the striking building also contains space for a restaurant, a conference complex, a child daycare centre, a medical centre of excellence, a hotel and a palliative ward; four storeys (approx. 3‘800 m2) are let to third parties. The infrastructure is designed to generate maximum synergies and to satisfy the different, highly complex use requirements.

The architects e2a and the Diakonie's building commission set great store by continuous design, which creates shared identity despite completely different use profiles. The sophisticated design of the building structure is continued inside.

The Pallivita Bethanien - centre of excellence for palliative care is located on the seventh and eighth floor. The rooms were designed as apartments, a total of 32 patients can be accommodated. High-quality materials, subtle colouring and space for privacy given the ward its homely character. The patients' bathrooms can be adapted to the requirements of the respective user. If necessary, mobile shower seats and hinged support rails can be added to respond flexibly to the needs of the patients. Due to the high.quality design, the mobile hinged support rails and shower seats were also used for the wheelchair-accessible rooms in the hotel area, to enable accessible bathrooms to be offered as flexibly as possible.
