Gisela-Schools, Passau

A grammar school and a middle school are now accommodated in the former convent building. Since 2012 the listed building has been thoroughly renovated and modernised up to the latest technical standards.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

The Gisela schools are located at the eastern tip of Passau, where the Danube, Ilz and Inn Rivers merge. The educational facility was mentioned for the first time in 1836, the original convent was founded in 739. A grammar school and a middle school are now accommodated in the former convent building. Since 2012 the listed building has been thoroughly renovated and modernised up to the latest technical standards. Due to the size of the project the renovation was divided into several construction phases, which are due for completion by 2018. The historic complex was also badly damaged by the flood in 2013. Numerous renovation and modernisation measures were required to repair it.

Despite the extensive restoration and renovation, the external appearance has been retained. Inside historical areas were refurbished and combined with modern elements. The sanitary facilities did not fulfil the necessary specifications, so that they had to be completely redesigned. Orange tiled walls now set colourful accents in the sanitary room. The accessories made of stainless steel are particularly easy-care and robust. The dispenser systems at the washbasin and WC also increase hygiene effectively – they enable clean and easy removal of consumables, such as soap or toilet paper.
