Barbie™ x HEWI: Solutions for the washbasin

The washbasin at the centre of use
The washbasin gives structure to the wash area. Depending on where it is positioned and how it is designed, it determines how you orientate yourself in the room and how easier it is to use complementary accessories such as soap dispensers.
Within the Barbie™ x HEWI collection, the modular washbasin performs precisely this function. It can be driven under and is designed so that it can be used both sitting and standing. It therefore fulfils key requirements for a barrier-free design and can be used across generations.
Its strength lies in its adaptability. The washbasin can be planned in such a way that it takes different needs into account and fulfils different requirements. Additional elements such as support rails, for example for pulling up in a wheelchair, or shelves for soap and toothbrushes can be easily added if required. They can be easily installed so that all important utensils are within easy reach directly at the washbasin, even with limited mobility.
The colour scheme is also functionally integrated. The characteristic pink colour marks the functional areas that can be added and makes it easier to find your way around the washbasin.
The second washbasin in the collection, the DUO washbasin, has a different focus. It is designed as a countertop solution for consoles and furniture and, as a designer washbasin, is more focussed on its effect in the room and less on accessibility.
Made of ceramic, it brings a traditional materiality to the collection. The combination of white interior and coloured exterior creates targeted contrasts and opens up a range of design options, from understated to full of character.
Thanks to its compact shape, the washbasin can be positioned flexibly and fitted with a wall-mounted fitting or a single-lever basin mixer as required. It is designed without an overflow, which reduces the build-up of bacteria.
The two approaches complement each other and show how differently the washbasin can be thought of within the collection.
Fitting and mirror as part of the washbasin system
The fitting and mirror complete the washbasin to create a fully usable washbasin. Only the interaction of these elements creates a situation in which everyday routines can be carried out naturally.
The fitting from the BarbieTM x HEWI collection with the pink-coloured operating lever sets a targeted accent and visualises the area of use. In contrast, the tap body is kept in white and forms a calm background for the colour-contrasting control lever. This creates a clear contrast that emphasises operation.
The round mirror is an integral part of the collection and adds a central usage level to the washbasin. Without it, many everyday activities such as shaving or applying make-up cannot be carried out. It is only through it that the wash area can be experienced as a complete and coherent concept in daily use.
Designed as an LED illuminated mirror, it is equipped with modern technical functions that increase comfort and convenience. The light colour can be adjusted from warm white to cool white and adapted to different requirements and preferences. The brightness is infinitely dimmable and provides even illumination, which is ideal for precise hand movements in daily routines.
Accessories as a functional addition to the washbasin
Accessories such as soap dispenser, soap dish, tumbler with holders and towel raile are indispensable on the washbasin.
The accessories in the Barbie x HEWI collection are pink and can be perfectly combined with each other. At the same time, colour is used as a design element that characterises the washbasin and acts as an eye-catcher in the bathroom. The accessories are visible in the room and determine the effect of the entire washbasin in the bathroom.
As with the washbasin models, the collection combines two levels: It makes everyday use easier and at the same time creates a design presence that deliberately emphasises the washbasin visually. This combination characterises the versatility of the BarbieTM x HEWI collection.
A collection that combines use and design
The Barbie™ x HEWI collection shows how consistent a washbasin can be when function and design are developed together. All the elements, from the washbasin to the fitting and mirror to the accessories, interlock and form a system that provides comfort and convenience for a wide range of users in everyday life.
The basis for this is the principles of universal design. The products are designed so that they can be used by people of different abilities and processes at the washing station can be understood without additional explanation. The functional elements are clearly arranged and unambiguous in their function.
At the same time, the design plays a central role. The iconic pink colour scheme is used specifically to make functions visible and provide orientation. It shapes the perception of the wash area in the room and is clearly recognisable as a homage to Barbie™, without being merely decorative. Instead, the colour scheme is deliberately integrated into the products and effective in use.
